Tour Recap: Columbus OH – June 9th

So as I mentioned in the last post, we arrived in Columbus OH around 8am.  And my Aunt and Uncle were very, very kind to let us shower and pass out at their place for the day.  AND… they even let us come back to their place after the show that night!  So Tuesday was our rest, shower, sleep, day of the tour.  While it would have been nice to be able to hang around and talk with the family more, the rest was very much needed!  We even watched “Spinal Tap” and they fed us spaghetti before sending us on our way to the show.  YUM!  During the day I received a message from My Latex Brain that unfortunately due to a family emergency they were unable to play that night.  So it was going to be just STREAK and Everlasting God Stopper.  Still made for a good show though.

We found the venue, Bernies, early in the evening.  We were pretty lucky and got a parking spot just across from the load in door and so we headed in to check it out.  The area was swarming with College kids so we were hoping for a good turnout.  Cool little basement type venue.  While loading in, the Jukebox played anything from Lamb of God to Ramones to some rap crap stuff.  So wide variety, which was cool.

The show went well.  Unfortunately after the night before, my voice was not 100%, and wouldn’t be for the rest of the tour.  It was very frustrating for me to have to “fake” certain parts of songs.  Just couldn’t quite hit some of the notes.  I still pushed and gave it my all, and everyone seemed to enjoy the noise and be very understanding.  So that was cool.

After the show we hung around for a bit at the bar.  And while we were talking with the Bartender, she mentioned that it was finals week for the local collage so there were a lot of people not going out that night.  But even though the turnout wasn’t huge, the people who were there really helped to make the night.  I also received a cool item from the sound guy (Mike I think???).  I have a bunch of stuff on my mic stand, and it seems to keep growing.  After we played he gave me a black, sort of beat up, tambourine to add to it.  Very cool!  He told me that when he first saw the mic stand he though of the tambourine, and that if we sucked he wasn’t going to give it to us.  So not only did I get something cool to add to the stand, but also it’s nice to know we didn’t suck… haha! 🙂

We hung around for a bit at the bar, then decided it would be a good idea to head back to sleep since we had a 7hr drive ahead of us to get to the next show.  We got up to the van and were about to head off when this very, very drunk kid stumbled up the walk way and collapsed on the lawn/pathway in front of us.  It was amusing & we laughed at him for a while, watching this poor soul throw-up via his nose, before collapsing on his back.  Being the kind people that we are (hahahaha), we didn’t feel right just leaving him there, on this back.  Just so happened there was a police officer parked across the street.  Jim ran over and let the officer know what was happening.  He made his way over to check on the drunkard.  Kicked him with his foot, eventually got him to stand up, and let him wander away.  Being a college town I’m sure the officer saw that crap all the time.  And while we had talked about leaving the kid, and that it was evolution and the survival of the fittest, I suppose we did the right thing 😉

Next recap post… Alexandria VA – June 10th!

Thanks 🙂

Chris
