Tour Recap: Albany (Mechanicville), NY [June 13th] & Such

I believe we rolled into the Albany/Mechanicville area around 12pm on Saturday June 13th, at which time we pulled into the parking lot of Mr C’s Pub.  It was hard to tell from the outside what sort of adventures tonight’s show was going to bring us, so Jim went in to check it out.  But he was told they weren’t open yet so we hung out in the van.  Because we hadn’t spent enough time in there already…  Right around then we got a call from Mrs Streak saying that she and Paul’s Lady were about 40min out.  So in the mean time we decided to get the van washed and vacuumed out.  We were actually pretty good keeping the van clean.  Other than the usual dirt or dropped food bit or two it wasn’t really that bad.  So once the vacuuming was done I pulled up to the car wash… of which we were just a bit too tall for.  In fact we started to hit their low hanging sign.  You know, the one that says you have to fit under this sign to go through.  Yeah, oh well.  So we pulled out of there and headed across the street to another one.  This one was much taller and we had no problems.  Now the van was all nice and shiny again.  We then got a call from the girls that they had arrived in town and so we headed over to meet them.  I hadn’t seen Mrs Streak since last Saturday, so it was really, really awesome to have her there :).  Sure, Paul and Jim are both nice and cuddly, but they just don’t quite feel the same… haha!  We then headed over to get some foodage at the local Chili’s.  It was a great last meal together before the final show of the tour.

After eating we hung out at Mr C’s for a bit, we were all pretty tired.  As you can see (photo above), we hadn’t been in NY for too long and we had already gotten “leid”… haha!  The event wasJune.13th - NY lots of fun.  And even better, Tim from Standard Issue Citizen had set up the whole show.  So we didn’t have to worry about the other bands, or the venue, or sound system or anything but showing up and playing!   Thanks Tim!! 🙂  And it was great.  Doomsday Virus opened up the show with a bang.  Then we were up.  It was bitter sweet as it was our last show of the tour.  But it was nice to be home, or at least close to it.  Then Standard Issue Citizen took the “stage”.  The whole night was awesome!  After SiC was done playing we didn’t hang around for too long.  We were all pretty tired, and looking forward to a night of NOT sleeping in the van.  The entire tour was some really great June.13th - NYtimes, but this was where Paul, Jim and myself were parting ways.  It was a bit odd to separate actually, we had been living in the van together for 8 glorious days.  We all got along which was awesome, so we didn’t need to worry about hiding any bodies… hehe.  But honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a cooler set of dudes to help share the 1st Streak tour with.  We each pulled together and helped to rock every venue.

Paul and Jim retrieved their belongings from the van as Mrs Streak and I were bringing it back in the AM.  Then Paul, his Lady, and Jim all set out in their vehicle, while Mrs Streak & I set out in the van.  Streak’s TV DINNER TOUR was complete.  We made some really good contacts, made some awesome new fans, and had some very cool times.  All in all the entire tour was a super success and I really can’t wait to get out there again!!

OK, so here are a few afterthoughts that came to me after the recaps had been written.  The mind is always working.  And while I don’t want to miss anything, I don’t want to “dwell” on these recaps too much.  I’d rather put that energy into the future :).  That being said… here is the “& Such”:

One thing I would really like to do next time is to keep more of a journal for the tour.  Paul had started one, maybe we’ll see some posts, maybe we wont ;).

The act playing just after us at “Nobody’s Art Space” in Buffalo, NY gave us his take from the door.  Combined, we made off with a whopping $32!  But it was really quite cool of him to give this to us.  He stated that he lives in the area, and knows what we are putting in to do the tour.  So thank you “Left Hand of Darkness”!

After our 1st show in Buffalo NY we were headed off to North Canton OH.  Along the way, sadly enough, a deer decided to run out in front of us.  It struck the van in the front driver’s side of the bumper and then apparently bounced along that side of the van.  We were on the highway going 65mph so by the time we slowed down and pulled over we were just too far down to know what state the deer was in.  Not only was it a drag to hit an animal, but it did do damage to the van as well.  Damn creature, at 2am we were the only vehicle on the road, if it had only waitied a half a second all would have been OK.  I phoned it into 911, and they connected me to the local state police barracks.  At that speed we were sure their wasn’t much that could be done for the deer, but we also didn’t want it to be left in the road for another car to hit.  Then a day or so later when we went to fill up the windshield washer fluid we found that it had a hole in it.  Paul poured it in, and it all leaked right out the bottom.  It must have been punctured during the accident.  So for the majority of the tour we had no washer fluid.  Sad way to start the tour but it could have been a lot worse!

I found that sleeping in the van wasn’t actually so bad.  I think it really added to the experience (haha).  I mean, it was no Hilton, but we made due.  Budget wise we just could not afford to stay Huh?? Philly...in  hotel rooms.  Plus I’m a bit of scrooge when it comes to that sort of thing.  If I can survive in a van, why pay for a bed?  Accounting wise we didn’t come close to breaking even, let along making any money.  But that’s not why we wanted to do this.  The lasting impression and future investment was well worth the funds put into the tour.  Although next time, maybe we’ll be able to spring for a hotel room for a few nights out of the tour 🙂

I can honestly say that being on tour was one of the coolest things I have ever been able to experience.  I can’t wait to do it again.  I would like to thank all of the people who came out, the venues, the bands who we got to share the stage with, our families, and of course Mrs Streak for being so extremely supportive.  Each of those things made the experience.  I would also like to thank ChromeSkinJesus of the Razor Blade Dance Floor (www.razorbladedancefloor.com) & Duffy Laudick (www.myspace.com/duffyduckproductions) for all of the HUGE tour support!  Also thanks to www.GimmeSound.com.  Until next time… Rock on!

Thanks for reading/following/giving a shit 🙂
